Karim has around 20 years of experience as a business lawyer in Egypt and the Middle East. During his career he advised Fortune 500 companies and leading development financial institutions on multi-billion dollar investments in the energy sector, financial sector, and infrastructure sector.
His areas of practice include public private partnerships, project finance, mergers & acquisitions and complex commercial arbitration and litigation cases. He is regularly recognized as one of the leading business lawyers in the Egyptian market by the main international legal directories. In parallel with his law career, he cooperates with development financial institutions and think tanks to promote public policy reforms in Egypt, focusing in particular on economic policies and institutional reform. He holds a Master in Public Administration from Harvard University, Post Graduate Diploma in Organizational Leadership from the University of Oxford, a Master and Bachelor of Law from Cairo University.

Advised Eni on the USD1.12bn sale of 30% stake in Zohr gas filed (the largest gas discovery in Egyptian history located in the Mediterranean sea) to Rosneft, and the USD375mn sale of 10% stake of the same gas field to BP.
Advised the Moroccan Attijari Wafa bank on the acquisition of Barclays Egypt from Barclays Bank PLC.

Advised the German DEA Deutsche Erdoel AG on negotiations with the Egyptian Government and concluding a new model for oil & gas concession agreements for the development of the North Alexandria and West Mediterranean deep-water gas fields. This new model concession is one of its kind in the Egyptian oil & gas industry and meant to deal with the economic challenges of extracting gas from deep water areas. The total investments of DEA and its partner in this project, BP, is estimated at USD12bn.
Advised the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development on several hundred million dollars loan agreements to Egyptian banks aiming at supporting the Egyptian banking sector and channeling the funds to SMEs operating in Egypt.
