Sharkawy & Sarhan acted as Egyptian legal counsel to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on its landmark $100 million loan agreement with the National Bank of Egypt (NBE)

Sharkawy & Sarhan is honored to have advised the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on its landmark $100 million loan agreement with the National Bank of Egypt (NBE).

This transaction aims to channel essential resources to micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), with a strong emphasis on supporting youth-led initiatives and women entrepreneurs. By empowering these segments of the private sector, the deal strengthens Egypt’s economic resilience and fosters inclusive growth nationwide.

We are delighted to be part of a project that not only enhances access to finance for regional businesses but also reinforces Egypt’s commitment to sustainable and inclusive development.

The Sharkawy & Sarhan team handling this transaction was led by Partner Ahmed Haggag, closely supported by Associate Raghda ElQabbage.

We had the pleasure of working alongside CMS, with Partner Elitsa Ivanova and Counsel Katerina Hristova, who acted as English legal advisers to EBRD.
